Types of Render

Different types of rendering At Smarter Rendering, we are familiar with all professional aspects of construction and that rendering has many different components. For rendering we provide the following types:

Cement Rendering

Traditional cement rendering is the application of a premixed surface of sand, cement and lime to brick, cement, stone or mud brick. It is often textured, tinted or painted after application. It is generally used on exterior walls but can be used to feature an interior wall. Cement’s chemical composition requires a curing time, so the rendering cement mixture must be left to dry, or cure, for about four weeks before you can paint it. Cement Rendering is:

  • economical (from $45 per sqm)
  • looks great
  • needs lengthy curing time
  • prone to expansion / contraction cracking

Acrylic Rendering

Acrylic is a unique material comprising a mixture of plastic polymers and petroleum that provides its strong and flexible structure. Acrylic-based renders offer better water resistance than cement renders, as well as higher strength against the piercing sun. Though the final appearance of acrylic renders is comparable to cement renders, acrylic is less prone to cracking over time. Additionally, acrylic renders are applied in a thin layer — about 1.5 to 4 millimeters thick — that allows for rapid drying times of about one to two days, after which the surface can be painted. Acrylic Mix Rendering is:

  • economical (from $50 per sqm)
  • looks great
  • less curing time than cement rendering
  • less prone to expansion / contraction cracking

100% Acrylic Rendering (aka Coloured Rendering)

  • Not so economical (from $115 per sqm)
  • Looks great
  • ultra long lasting
  • allows for expansion and contraction in the walls
